19th Century French Copper Marmite with Iron Swing Bail Handle
This French copper marmite, dating to the mid-19th century (circa 1840-1870), was made for everyday hearth cooking. The hand-hammered copper body is fitted with a forged iron swing handle, allowing it to be used over an open hearth. While originally designed for hearth cooking, this marmite can be used on modern stovetops as well as moderate oven temperatures.
Traditionally used for soups, stews, and stocks, the marmite’s heavy copper provides even, responsive heat. The interior is tin-lined and ready for use, while the exterior shows a warm, aged patina with visible hammer marks.
Condition: Antique condition consistent with age and use. Surface wear and patina throughout. Interior professionally re-tinned and ready for use.
