Small 18th-century French copper chaudron, composed of two separate nested vessels functioning together as an early bain-marie. The heavier outer pot sat at or near the hearthover coals, while the smaller inner vessel held tallow, wax, soap, or other materials needing indirect heat. Both pieces are hand-formed with dovetailed seams and fitted with forged-iron handles.
Condition: Age-expected wear and oxidation from hearth use, including a small seam perforation on the interior piece. May be solder-repaired and tin lined if future functional use is desired.
